Hazardous Solids Treatment
The Treatment Processes Behind The HI-POD

The Hi-Pod is owned, transported and processed by Hitech Environmental Services in Paisley, Scotland. Our site is PPC licensed and we offer a treatment and recycling facility accredited to ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 14001. We operate a substantial transport fleet of curtain side vehicles, vacuum tankers and specialist industrial equipment such as SUPERVACS and DISABS.

All the waste from Hi-Pods is physically treated at our site before being recycled and any client is welcome to organise a full audit of our processes or indeed to pop into the site for an unscheduled check. All our processes at Hitech have been designed, developed and built internally by our engineers and fabricators and the entire facility is, we believe, one of a kind in Britain at the moment. We have matched treatments to wastes streams and each of our processes is bespoke;

Oil Contaminated Solid Waste

Generally arriving on site in mixed loads, this waste is mechanically segregated into separate waste streams prior to treatment;

Oily Rags
Contaminants (mostly oils, paints, inks, etc.) are cracked out by chemical and heat treatment and caught in a liquid form. From this liquid, any oil is split and then cleaned for re-use as a recycled fuel oil. The water is recycled several times through the systems before being polished through the Effluent Treatment Plant and discharged to sewer in compliance with our consent to discharge criteria. The rags are then washed and cleaned to such a degree that they can be sent for disposal to landfill as inert waste or dried and sent back to industry as re-usable rags.
Contaminated Paper & Cardboard
The waste is processed into a liquid form and treated with chemicals and heat to crack out the contaminant. Again, any oil is recycled from this with the resulting clean paper being baled, dried and sent back to the paper industry as a pulp.
Contaminated Absorbent Pads, Booms, Socks, Etc.
After having the oil split out by chemical and heat treatment, the resulting material is cleaned and dried, resulting in a material that is suitable for composting.
Contaminated Plastics & Polythenes
The plastic materials are shredded before being heated to release all contaminants into a liquid phase from which any oil is recovered. The resulting plastic is washed, cleaned and dried before being baled and sent out as material for re-use in the polythene industry.

Inks, Paints, Latex, Adhesive, Dyes - (Any Water Based Liquid Or Sludge)

Ph balanced in holding tanks, the waste is then treated in accordance with results from lab trials and analysis. A suite of chemicals allow different wastes to be treated, resulting in flocculation and separation of the solids content of the liquid material. The liquid and solids are then separated with the waste water being polished through the Effluent Treatment Plant prior to discharge to sewer in accordance with our consent to discharge license. The remaining solid waste is treated in the centrifuge to spin out any remaining water and the resulting solids are pressed to ensure the minimum volume of solid material. This solid material is then sent to inert landfill but can also be composted, resulting in no landfill disposal whatsover.
